I have over 6 years experience in designing complex user interaction interfaces for NZ’s largest and most successful website Trade Me. I can help you take a complex process and make it simple, intuitive and inviting for your users - whether it's consultation on improvements for an existing or new design, or fully designing a front end.

A little about me...

Hello, I’m Tim, a user interaction designer based in Wellington New Zealand.
I began my design life in graphic design then became fascinated with the internet and how easily people could communicate and interact with one another – in real time.
 
Moving to online based design has enabled me to employ my multi-discipline design skills in graphic design, typography, photography, and the art of persuasion.
 
Like all design, interaction design is a form of communication. However it’s not solely ones interpretation to the aesthetics, though that is important, interaction design connects people with technology, guiding them through and communicating specific tasks at hand. My overlying philosophy is an interface done well should go almost unnoticed.
 
One of the beauties of the online space is that everything is measurable and easily changeable. In a matter of hours one can evaluate results of how effective a particular design implementation is (or running several variations at one time) and can quickly put together changes/tweaks if required. There is something strangely satisfying putting two designs up against each other, viewing the results and deciding a winner.
 
With working for Trade Me for the last 6 years, my interface designs have been used by well over half the Kiwi population. Unlike straight graphic design, interface design can have a little more responsibility tied to it. People interact with these designs day to day and in some cases (i.e. Trade Me) their lives revolve around it. It’s quite incredible how a tiny change can save someone hours of accumulated time, making their lives easier and enjoyable.
